Presentations of the Schützenberger product of n groups

چکیده
In this paper, we first consider n × n upper-triangular matrices with entries in a given semiring k. Matrices of this form with invertible diagonal entries form a monoid Bn(k). We show that Bn(k) splits as a semidirect product of the monoid of unitriangular matrices Un(k) by the group of diagonal matrices. When the semiring is a field, Bn(k) is actually a group and we recover a well-known result from the theory of groups and Lie algebras. Pursuing the analogy with the group case, we show that Un(k) is the ordered set product of n(n− 1)/2 commutative monoids (the root subgroups in the group case). Finally, we give two different presentations of the Schützenberger product of n groups G1, . . . , Gn, given a monoid presentation 〈Ai | Ri〉 of each group Gi. We also obtain as a special case presentations for the monoid of all n× n unitriangular Boolean matrices.

Presentations of Schützenberger Groups of Minimal Subshifts
In previous work, the first author established a natural bijection between minimal subshifts and maximal regular J -classes of free profinite semigroups. In this paper, the Schützenberger groups of such J -classes are investigated, in particular in respect to a conjecture proposed by the first author concerning their profinite presentation. The conjecture is established for all non-periodic min...
متن کاملSOLVABILITY OF FREE PRODUCTS, CAYLEY GRAPHS AND COMPLEXES
In this paper, we verify the solvability of free product of finite cyclic groups with topological methods. We use Cayley graphs and Everitt methods to construct suitable 2-complexes corresponding to the presentations of groups and their commutator subgroups. In particular, using these methods, we prove that the commutator subgroup of $mathbb{Z}_{m}*mathbb{Z}_{n}$ is free of rank $(m-1)(n-1)$ fo...
متن کاملOn Finite Generation and Presentability of Schützenberger Products
The finite generation and presentation of Schützenberger products of semigroups are investigated. A general necessary and sufficient condition is established for finite generation. The Schützenberger product of two groups is finitely presented as an inverse semigroup if and only if the groups are finitely presented, but is not finitely presented as a semigroup unless both groups are finite. 200...
متن کاملSemigroup Actions, Covering Spaces and Schützenberger Groups
We associate a 2-complex to the following data: a presentation of a semigroup S and a transitive action of S on a set V by partial transformations. The automorphism group of the action acts properly discontinuously on this 2-complex. A sufficient condition is given for the 2-complex to be simply connected. As a consequence we obtain simple topological proofs of results on presentations of Schüt...
متن کاملOn the Exponent of Triple Tensor Product of p-Groups
The non-abelian tensor product of groups which has its origins in algebraic K-theory as well as inhomotopy theory, was introduced by Brown and Loday in 1987. Group theoretical aspects of non-abelian tensor products have been studied extensively. In particular, some studies focused on the relationship between the exponent of a group and exponent of its tensor square. On the other hand, com...
